Project Description

UCL East Marshgate Phase 1 is located in the northeast corner of the Elizabeth Olympic Park. It will be an academic-led, mixed-use block totalling 35,000 m2, and will be the centre of the UCL East academic vision. The building is the first phase of UCL East & it will feature predominantly academic uses, but will also include retail, community and engagement uses. At the heart of the building is a central atrium that is openly accessible to encourage inclusivity and community engagement with the use of ‘Fluid Zones’ at ground and first floor level to draw people into the building. It includes a range of laboratories, research and group working spaces, design studios, student-led fabrication workshops, and exhibition areas. The design is focused around collaborative social areas,  promoting interdisciplinary work and interaction between teaching and research, staff and students, academics and members of the public. Academic activities will range from media, making, human settlements, conservation and heritage to advance propulsion, future manufacturing, robotics, and training for financial and business leaders.
