As an employer, it is our duty to protect the health and safety of our employees as well as that of our contractors, visitors and any other person that may be affected by our activities. Every effort is made to ensure full compliance is built into everything we do so that both employees and sub-contractors understand and adopt the Dornan Group EHS principles.
Dornan Group has a certified Safety Management System. We first achieved OHSAS 18001 Certification in 2005. In 2019, we successfully completed the transition to the new standard ISO 45001:2018. We are certified by the external certification body – AFNOR Group. We complete a recertification audit every 3 years and a surveillance audit annually.
Holding occupational health & safety certification means that we fully comply with regulations and are focused on continual performance improvement. ISO is increasingly key to an effective OH&S management system.
Thanks to the standards we insist on and the procedures we put in place, our accident record is exemplary. But we know we can never afford to drop our guard and must always strive to maintain our strong safety culture.
Dornan Group took the decision to be as scrupulous in our environmental management practices as we have always been in health and safety. We developed our Environmental Management System that is ISO 14001:2015 certified. We regularly audit all our sites for compliance and have produced a suite of training courses on important functions including the safe storage of chemicals, recycling of waste material and procedures for environmental emergencies.
This certification seeks to advance continual improvement of environmental performance, encouraging the establishment of organizational systems to reduce relevant environmental impacts: raw materials, water, energy, waste, etc. ISO 14001 is based on the Plan, Do, Check, Act Cycle and on continually striving for excellence, as is Dornan Group.
Projects are planned to minimise energy consumption, both in the execution of the work and in the procurement of the latest technologies. The company takes pride in helping clients to achieve some of the best-in-class BREEAM ratings on their projects.
At Dornan Group our safety message is simple – Detect – Notify – Act. We aim to empower our employees at all levels, from apprentice to management, to speak up about safety concerns. We take a proactive approach to environmental, health and safety management.
The ‘Safety is in our DNA’ slogan arose from this concept.
- DETECT unsafe behavior and conditions
- NOTIFY the relevant people
- ACT to get the issues resolved
Dornan Group Behavioural Based Safety Programme (BBS)
In 2013, Dornan Group took a specialist approach to reinforce the safety message to our workforce. The BBS Programme encourages a strong focus on ownership, communication, interaction, reinforcement, and acknowledgement. The system is based on incentivising and coaching employees to recognise safe and unsafe behaviour. Our efforts to raise awareness of the importance of understanding safe work practices proved successful in enhancing the safety mind-set of employees and supervisors.
